The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to move within two wins of a championship when they host the Houston Astros in Game 2 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium in L.A. on Wednesday night.

The Astros will likely need a better offensive performance in Game 2 than the three hits and one run they recorded in Game 1 in order to even the series, but the bulk of the pressure rests squarely on Verlander’s shoulders.

The former American League Cy Young award winner and MVP is now in a situation where Houston needs him to be the stopper, and Astros manager A.J. Hinch marveled at his ability to come through in big spots, according to Stats LLC (h/t ESPN.com).

I think the mental focus is just at another level. It’s easy to say, ‘Why don’t you just do that every game?’ But it’s unsustainable throughout the course of the regular season. If you were that mentally focused, you’d just burn out.

The loss drops Houston’s all–time World Series record to 0–5. Dallas Keuchel took the loss, allowing Chris Taylor’s home run on the very first pitch he threw in the game.

The Astros look to bounce back in Game 2, sending ALCS MVP Justin Verlander to the mound against left-hander Rich Hill.

The Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers open the 2017 World Series on Tuesday at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The Dodgers seek their first World Series title since 1988. The Astros seek their first World Series title in franchise history.

Here’s how to watch, or follow the game online:

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros will meet on what’s expected to be a 100-degree Tuesday at Dodger Stadium, beginning possibly the warmest World Series ever. Some forecasts expect Los Angeles to be hotter than 94 degrees for the first pitch at 8 p.m. EDT on Tuesday — and there’s no roof on Dodger Stadium.

An October heat wave slugged Southern California on Monday, with the temperature reaching 104 degrees shortly after lunchtime in Chavez Ravine. It was still blazing when the Dodgers and Astros showed up at Dodger Stadium for brief late-afternoon workouts that stretched into the early evening.

Still, the players didn’t take the field Monday until the sun was partly blocked by the left field grandstands, and they took batting practice after sunset — when it was still a toasty 94 degrees. Similar heat is expected Tuesday.

Game 1 has a chance to be the warmest World Series game on record. Back in 2001, the temperature was around 94 degrees in Phoenix for the Oct. 27 World Series opener between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the New York Yankees. The Chase Field roof was left open, and the temperature had dropped to 76 degrees by game time.

The sun is scheduled to set about one hour after the first pitch in each of the first two games, so the heat will drop after that. But the temperatures could even knock out the marine layer — the thick air mass caused by cooling temperatures near the Pacific Ocean and often blamed for fly balls falling short of the fence from San Diego to Oakland.

Tonight’s big Game 1 of this MLB Playoffs 2017 World Series between the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers has a scheduled start time of 8.08 p.m. ET, and can be watched on TV on the Fox network, or online through free live stream by clicking here.

World Series game 2017

The Houston Astros won the American League West with a 101-61 record, while the Los Angeles Dodgers claimed the National League West with a sparkling 104-58 mark. It is historically rare that two teams of this caliber navigated this far into the postseason, per ESPN Stats and Info

The best arm of this generation, Kershaw was outstanding again in 2017 with an 18-4 record along with a 2.31 ERA. In fact, he has posted an ERA under 2.15 in each of the last four seasons, so the Dodgers should feel pretty good about him throwing in Game 1.

Those defeats extended Houston’s historically poor postseason performance on the road, where it is 5-10 over its past 15 going into Tuesday night’s Astros versus Dodgers betting matchup at Dodger Stadium.

While the Astros were road warriors in the regular season, the Dodgers dominated at home, posting an MLB-best 57-24 record, and are 9-1 in their past 10 games at Dodger Stadium including a perfect 4-0 postseason record, according to the OddsShark MLB Database.

A moderate Santa Ana event will be responsible for the heat this week. While the area around Dodger Stadium is sheltered, winds will still be gusty and can swirl around through the park
