Starting quarterback Tom Brady will reportedly sit tonight’s contest out, paving the way for backup Jimmy Garoppolo to start against Jacksonville. And while he did look good in this week’s two open joint practice sessions, Garoppolo’s training camp prior to the Jaguars coming to town was rather inconsistent.
Through the first two weeks of training camp, Deatrich Wise Jr. has been the Patriots’ best rookie. The fourth round draft pick out of Arkansas has looked good in both one-on-one battles and team drills and displayed strength at the point of attack, a sound technique and a wide range of pass rushing moves. Practice, however, is a relatively save space so it will be interesting to see how Wise Jr. performs in his first NFL game. And even though it is “only” preseason, it might give further indication about where he currently stands in his development.
